As a new hire, the departmental administrative assistant is your primary point of contact for account and payroll processing. Once your credentials have been issued, there are two main account formats you need to keep straight in terms of knowing how and where to use them: your my.UTPB.edu and Outlook 365 accounts.

University of Texas of the Permian Basin Accounts

As a UTPB instructor you are provided with a my.UTPB.edu account to verify personal information and access financial and academic information. Access to my.UTPB.edu is on every UTPB web page. Format for your my.UTPB.edu username is lastname_firsinitial for example, doe_j. Duplicate accounts are possible causing your username to vary from this example. Follow the credentials sent to you from UTPB Information Resources Division (IRD).

PeopleSoft is the Student Information System. The use of the terms PeopleSoft and my.UTPB.edu are often used interchangeably. To access my.UTPB.edu from off campus, you have to set up two-factor authentication with Duo Mobile app. For information to request this setup, refer to Duo Security.

Some of the academic functions you will see in my.UTPB.edu/PeopleSoft include:

View your paycheck information.
Manage personal information.
Verify class information about classes you are teaching.
View your class rosters.
Submit grades.

Email and Outlook 365 Account

To access your UTPB email and Outlook 365 you add the extension @utpb.edu. Login to Outlook 365 requires you to use lasname_firstinitial@utpb.edu, for example doe_j@utpb.edu

As a faculty member your Outlook 365 account includes access to:

Email
Calendar
OneDrive
MS Office Applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
MS Teams
Notebook
Many more apps to choose from once you login.

Canvas Account

To access Canvas, you use your my.UTPB.edu credentials. Course Login is on every UTPB web page. Canvas is the University’s learning management system where you teach your online class, interact with students, complete activities such as discussions, assignments, exams and quizzes. When the registrar’s office places your account information as the instructor of record in PeopleSoft, your course will appear in Canvas within 2 hours. Contact your department if you have problems with the course assignment appearing.

Class Roster

The official list of all students enrolled in each class you teach is available through your my.UTPB.edu account. The my.UTPB.edu rosters are updated in real time and accurate at the time they are accessed. After you login, select Campus Solutions > Self Service > Faculty Center > Class Roster.

Class Rosters and Canvas

A copy of class rosters is also loaded into your Canvas course site. The Canvas rosters are synchronized with my.UTPB.edu rosters every 2 hours. If you do not see a student’s name on the roster, it is possible that the Canvas class roster has not updated yet.

Book Orders

Book orders for your course may be processed through your academic department administrative staff. If there is a problem with a book order, contact the administrative assistant first. They will know who to contact. There may be a simple solution.

Assistance and Support

Information Resources Division (IRD) handles your access credentials to my.UTPB.edu/PeopleSoft), email, Outlook 365, and Canvas. Service requests may be sent to IRD via email to ird@utpb.edu or enter ticket at Service Now https://utpb.service-now.com/
