Here are a few helpful tips concerning the class:

There are notes for EVERY section and videos on what you need to learn in Canvas, Modules tab. Print out the notes (4 or 6 slides per page), keep a binder, and watch the videos BEFORE you start the homework.

Start on your assignments as soon as possible. Many students are waiting until the weekend to begin. There is simply not enough hours on the weekend to give your brain enough time to process the information properly.

If you are not dedicating enough time into the class it will be very difficult to succeed. In order to be successful in an online math class like this, time management and self-discipline are critical. I will be teaching Calculus II face to face next semester. I suspect this may be a better fit for many students. (It will still require ALOT of your time but at least it will not be self-paced) I encourage you to consider this option.

My syllabus states that 20% of the final exam grade can be added to your lowest grade provided that you have an 80 or above on at least 75% of your homework. So this test grade has a potential to be brought up as long as you are dedicated to completing the homework in a timely manner.

Attend tutoring or join a study group. Most of the students in the class are local so a study group would be very beneficial. I have posted a discussion titled "Studying for Calculus II at the Success Center" Please post a time when you will be going and when you could go to the Success Center so that perhaps other people in the class can get together and join you to study.

Come see me during office hours if you have any questions concerning the class or the material.

Please do not ask me to reteach the material, as I work very hard to organize the notes and videos each week in order to help students learn the material. I am happy to answer questions you are still struggling with AFTER you have watched the videos and taken notes. My office hours are Mondays/Wednesday 10:30-2:00 pm. Please let me know when you will be coming, as sometimes I have appointments or are running errands.

Use the View an Example option to help you with problems you may be struggling with. But then do the problems again WITHOUT using the study plan and no notes in order to ensure you actually understand the material. Remember the ultimate goal is to know the information for the test not just complete the homework to get a grade. I encourage you to use the Study Plan option in MyLab to look for the type of questions you had to View an Example for.
