Memorize how to find a "normal" line to a curve (also known as orthogonal trajectories). Can be found in Example 5 Section 3.7 (normal lines are perpendicular to curves; so take the tangent of a curve by finding the derivative--this is the slope of a tangent line, m, then take the negative reciprocal of that slope and this will be the new slope of a normal line to a curve).
Be VERY COMFORTABLE with working with fractions and square roots as coefficients or exponents. See the test review for details. Practice these alot if you are having trouble.
Study TIPS and test strategies:
- Schedule your two attempts just in case you should need the second attempt. Ask the testing center what happens if you cancel your second attempt if you do not need it.
- Go over each of your powerpoint notes.
- Complete the test review in MyLab (the test review should adequately prepare you for the test as the test will have very similar questions from the test review; however, try working the test review WITHOUT ANY NOTES or other help so that you are adequately prepared for the test.)
- If you are needing additional help on specific questions, look for those questions in the Study Plan in MyLab. For example, suppose you need more help on using logarithmic differentation to find the derivative, Go to MyLab and Mastering, Study Plan tab, Progress, click on Section 7.2, (MyLab is still using the old edition ordering of the textbook so you may have to do some investigating or ask me if you need help finding a topic) then click on "7.2 Use Logarithmic Differentation to Find Derivatives" Practice. You can try a questions there along with View an Example or Help me Solve this and then try on your own repeatedly by clicking on the forward arrow and then going back to that question so that reloads the questions with different numerical values. Practice makes perfect!!
- Get a good night's rest before your test and a good breakfast the morning of. Arrive early and work on your breathing!!
