Disability Accommodations

Service for Students with Disabilities

UTPB provides access to its programs, classes, services, and activities to qualified individuals with disabilities as required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended.

The definition of a disability for purposes of ADA is that she or he (1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantively limits a major life activity, (2) has a record of such an impairment or, (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.  Students with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations and classroom modifications as addressed under Section 504/ADA regulations.

Students needing assistance because of a disability must contact the director of the Testing Services and Academic Accommodations Department Links to an external site., (TSAAD),  tsaad@utpb.edu or call (432) 552-2630.

Students who provide all documentation and are eligible for services are advised of their rights regarding academic accommodations and responsibilities. It is best for the student to complete the application for accommodations as soon as  accepted to UTPB. The University is not obligated to pay for diagnosis or evaluations nor is it obligated to pay for personal services or auxiliary aids.

The Director will notify the student as to whether the documentation submitted is sufficient or if more information is needed.
Upon completion of document review, the student will be notified to set an appointment or call to discuss the approval/denial of accommodations.   If the student is eligible to receive accommodations, the TSAAD Office will produce letters for the student to give to her/his professors verifying the disability and identifying reasonable accommodations.  It is then the student's responsibility to deliver these letters to her/his professors and discuss the listed accommodations with the professors.

If you need accommodations because of a disability, if you have emergency medical information to share with the instructor, or if you need special arrangements in the case the building must be evacuated, please inform the instructor immediately. It is best to contact the instructor after class or during his/her office hours in person, or by email and phone.
